Mathematics is a subject that is often labeled as difficult and complicated. Such impression is not perfectly correct when proper learning media is used. For that point, Sri Maya Januar Siamti, Hani Widya Putri and Ar-Royan Zainul Akbar from Educational Technology study program developed Andalan as learning media on multiplication and division concept for 2nd grade elementary school class.

“It is expected that Andalan will help students to understand the basic concept of multiplication and division so that they will not have difficulties in continuing the next sub-chapter,”Sri Maya Januar Siamti said. Hani Widya Putri added that Andalan will help students understanding the concept by demonstrating how a number is multiplied and divided in a more concrete way.

Royan Zainul Akbar explained that Andalan basically use the form of tazos (a game piece) which is equipped with question cards and teacher manuals. "There are two types of tazos which are packaged in fruits, namely watermelon and orange," Royan said. Each type of fruit consists of forty pieces of tazos.

By using Andalan, teacher will utilize discovery learning model through direct participation of students. Andalan is perfectly relate with mathematic subject for 2nd grade elementary school under the chapter themed 'playing in my neighborhood'. Andalan can be used for both individual and group activity.  This media has been tested in SDN 1 Prambanan at 2nd grade class with satisfactory result. The development of Andalan is fully supported by research funding from the Faculty of Education UNY. (Dedy,Tj.Lak)
