To transfer and share the knowledge, YSU partnerships with universities overseas should be built and developed.
One of the efforts to build the partnership is by initiating cooperation with other universities. In realising this idea, YSU Faculty of Social Sciences representatives visited the Faculty of Humanities, Curtin University, Australia. Associate Dean for Students’ Affairs, Terry Irenewaty, M.Hum., joined by the Head of Social Sciences Education Department (Sugiharyanto, M.Si.), the Head of History Education (M. Nur Rokhman, M.Pd.), and a teacher at the Civic Education Department (Pratiwi Wahyu Widiarti, M.Si).
Terry Irenewaty explained that the visit was aimed at gaining better understanding in developing the labs in the faculty. During a meeting with Anita Jolly (Manager of Humanities International Office), Thomas Yesudhasan, (a lecturer at School of Media Culture and Creative Arts), and George Bary (Geography Department), YSU delegates initiated a discussion on collaboration programs between the faculties. The possible programs discussed were guest lecturing, joint research, and student exchange.
“There are possibilities for several departments in YSU Faculty of Social Sciences to conduct collaborative programs with some departments in Curtin University,” she said.
Adding to the discussion, George stated that collaborative research is possible to conduct in issues in the field of Geography. “In Geography department, we deal with some issues such as population growth; food security; migration; natural hazards; climate change; global cities; and so forth” he further explianed.
In the near future, the Department of Social Sciences Education will conduct an international seminar and participations of international speakers are expected to broaden students’ horizons about social issues happening around the world. (Yuliana)
