International Talkshow with the theme “Why The 21st Century Will Be Different, Global Perspective About Indonesia” was held in the Main Convention Room of YSU, Saturday (15/8/2015). The talkshow invited Chandran Nair, Global Institute for Tomorrow CEO as the keynote speaker. It is the follow-up of 6th University Scholars Leadership Symposium (USLS) at Hong Kong Polytechnic University from 1 August - 7 August 2015. USLS is an international leadership program participated by representatives of either university or faculty student organization representatives.

The talkshow was moderated by Zidnie Ilma (English Language and Literature Student) and  opened by Prof. Suwarsih Madya, Ph.D. as the Vice Rector for Cooperation Affairs.

Chandran Nair started his session by saying that the talkshow is in the middle of his holiday in Indonesia. However, he loves to share his experience with YSU students. He said that there are five main reasons influencing Indonesian Growth Rate in 21st Century. “They are population, climate change, technology development, capitalism, and resource utilization,” he said.

“This country can be one of top five countries for the next 30 years, either economically or politically,” he said. Further, he motivated the students to contribute their skills to educate the next Indonesian youth due to the fact that YSU is an education university. “Just speak up! Remember that you live in one of the richest country in the world,” he added.

In discussion session, Agus Setiawan (Chief of Student Executive Board of Faculty of Languages and Arts) delivered a question about how to live in tradition while living in global community at the same time. “Instead of sacrificing culture to live in global community, you have to preserve it,” he said. In addition, he said that west perspective should not be accepted easily.

The talkshow was attended by faculty leaders and about 150 students. One of Indonesia delegations in USLS, Mela Melinda expressed her happiness to meet Chandran Nair at her university. “I got numerous valuable things there,” she said. She admited that she has a big fortune to live in Indonesia.

The talkshow was closed by token presentation and photo session. Dr. Kun Setyaning Astuti as Vice Dean for Student Affairs hoped that the talkshow brings confidence and pride for the students. “Youth generation should be proud of being Indonesian,” she closed. (Muvida)
