UNY has sent tennis and badminton team to participate in the International Sport Viesta Competition held at the University of Mara Technology (UiTM), Selangor, Malaysia on 31 July to 4 August 2019.  Each team consist of 10 students and accompanied by 2 official and 1 supervisor. In this competition, UNY tennis team win gold medal for team event category. For UNY badminton team, there are silver medal for team event category and individual men’s single category.

The member of UNY Team are mostly students from the Faculty of Sports Sciences  who come from the Sports Coaching Education Department, Physical Education and Recreation, Sports Science, and one student from the Faculty of Economics. All of them are member of UNY tennis and badminton club.

Abdul Alim, UNY Tennis Lecturer said that his students have been training regularly, around 4 to 5 times a week in the last two months.  Thanks to students’ enthusiasm, UNY team has won several championships in various events, including as the overall winner of the UGM Rector Cup held on last February. Alim also added that currently the students are preparing to compete in the National Student Sports Week (POMNAS) which will take place in September. Previously, UNY's tennis team succeeded in becoming the second overall champion in the 2017 POMNAS event. (Rani)
