Preparing YSU Students to Teach in Sekolah Indonesia in Singapore

Yogyakarta State University has targeted schools in ASEAN countries for its student teachers' working places in the future. After sending YSU students to Malaysia and Thailand to have teaching practices in high schools and vocational schools from July to August 2014, YSU will send selected students to Singapore for three months (October-December 2014).  The three students will have teaching practice at Sekolah Indonesia (Indonesian School), where Indonesian children whose parents work in Singapore study. The school is developed under the supervision of the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore.

The selected teacher students are from Physical, Health and Recreation Education, English Education and Geography Education Study Programs. They will teach sport, social sciences, language and culture.

Prof. Suwarsih Madya, The Vice Rector for Cooperation and Partnership Affairs of YSU, gave her support for the students, “You will be ‘exiled’ for three months but it is the stimulus which will improve your quality (personally, pedagogically, and professionally.red),” she said.

During the preparation, the teacher students joined a training which included classes for learning about Cross Cultural Understanding, Classroom English, Lesson Planning, How to Survive, Technical Meeting and Microteaching.
