YSU Faculty of  Engineering hosted a studium generale on  Transportation System in Korea, inviting Korean Experts in Transportation on September 22th, 2014. The keynote speakers were Prof. Young Tae Oh, the Dean of Graduate School of Intelligent Transport Systems, Prof. Choul-Ki Lee from the Department of Transportation Systems Engineering, Ajou University and Seong-Yoen Kim from Korea Transportation System Authority (KOTSA).

Prof. Rochmat Wahab, YSU Rector congratulated the  Faculty of Enginerring  for the progressive academic collaboration with Ajou University and KOTSA. “I expect that the collaboration can support the improvement of the quality of our education and research in transportation technology in order to contribute to the nation’s development,” he said.

Attended by YSU students, Young Tae Oh started the lecture by giving a presentation on  the Korean Government’s new policy in transportation to deal with density in the urban areas by expanding roads and infrastructure development. “Our focus is extending modern jet railways which is able to reach all regions in country,” he emphasized.

 “In addition, we continuosly develop our bus system. Strengthening the public transport system and the renewal of public transportation are being promoted  in Korea,” he added.

Meanwhile, Seong Yeon Kim suggested that the development of transportation must be followed by the improvement of safety system. In his lecture about the Vehicle Inception Policy, he underlined the importance of a standardized transportation safety system, particularly foremission and noise levels.   

To inform the audience about the latest innovation on transport system, Choul-Ki Lee introduced the recent innovation in transportation system by utilizing the integrated informatics technology, named as Intelligent Transport System (ITS).

Through the system, every vehicle on the road is able to “communicate” with other vehicles. The integration of the system has to do with the road infrastructure, vehicles and road users. “By integrating those elements, the transportation system will run effectively and efficiently,” he believed.

ITS Management is predicted to be the future of transportation. It involves government, police, transportation operators, and industries to build good cooperation .To overcome the problems occurred because of the policies, the industries have an important role  in the cooperation by conducting research and technology development. The industries involved are automotive, electronics, computer, telecommunication, aviation, transportation industries and highway builder. (Febi)
