A Safety Lamp Model Made by UNY Students Won Second Place in the Road Safety Innovation Competition
The existence of transportation is a vital need for the community. The importance of transport cannot be separated from the mobility needs that the community must carry out. The increasing number of motorized vehicles sees this transportation need to this day. This increase in the number of vehicles must be accompanied by providing road infrastructure that supports safe driving. One of the enabling factors in driving safety is the provision of facilities or infrastructure for safe driving behaviour, such as traffic signs and street lighting. The provision of street lighting will make it easier for motorists to drive, especially in hilly areas and areas with poor lighting. Better provision of supporting facilities for driving safety will minimize the risk of accidents on the highway. This notion is what a group of UNY students did by designing an integrated warning light to prevent accidents in the blind spot area called the Saltar (Smart Safety Lamp and Alarm). They are Yanuar Agung Fadlullah, Nur Rizqi Priyambodo, Sahid Ramandhani and Bagus Putra Setiyawan.
According to Yanuar Agung Fadlullah, Saltar technology connects two warning signs to communicate and provide information in the blind area. The power supply for each Saltar is obtained from the power generated by solar photovoltaics. Saltar can give information through sirens and activate warning LED signs on each device. "The Saltar device is equipped with a proximity sensor to detect vehicles so that each driver knows if a vehicle is on the opposite side of the road," said Yanuar, Monday (13/3). Nur Rizqi Priyambodo added the advantage of this tool is that it is equipped with a speaker and LED notification signs that can adjust the brightness of the light and an infrared sensor to turn on and turn on automatically. "Another advantage of the Saltar tool is that it uses power from solar panels, which are renewable energy, so it is more efficient," he said.
Sahid Ramandhani explained that the materials needed were an Arduino Uno R3 microcontroller, an LED warning light, a proximity sensor, a light sensor, an output speaker, cables and a solar panel as a power source. The distance sensor detects the vehicle's distance that will pass through the blind spot and then sends data from the distance detection results to the Arduino Uno R3 microcontroller. The data transmitted by the proximity sensor is analogue. The data read by the Arduino Uno R3 microcontroller is used to turn on the LED Panel to display warning signs to reduce speed because the road being traversed is a blind spot. The siren will sound brief until it reaches the hard sound time. "The work steps of the tool repeatedly occur with the main principle of detecting vehicle distances, turning on warning signs, and turning on sirens to assist road blind spot warning signs in reducing the risk of traffic accidents," said Sahid.
This work won 2nd place in Jasa Raharja Road Safety Innovation organized by PT. Jasa Raharja. 171 participants attended the competition. The Main Director of Jasa Raharja, Rivan A. Purwantono explained that this activity was a competition program initiated by Jasa Raharja to invite the younger generation to pay more attention to road safety issues. "Through this competition, we want to appreciate young innovators from students across Indonesia for their innovation and active participation in supporting driving safety to reduce the number of traffic accidents," said Rivan A. Purwantono. The hope is to encourage participants to become reliable national innovators through proper material supplies so that innovative ideas that are born from these participants can have a significant impact on reducing the level of road accidents.
