UNY FACULTY OF ENGINEERING LAUNCHED VIRTUAL REALITY PRODUCTS DEVELOPED BY LECTURERS AND STUDENTS

Faculty of Enginering UNY held an online virtual virtual reality (VR) / Internet of Things (IoT) product launch by lecturers and students in collaboration with international partner universities on December 28, 2020.

Throughout 2020, there were 10 VR products that were successfully completed by lecturers and students who collaborated with lecturers and developers from Universiti Malaysia Pahang, Sultan Idris Education University Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and many more. The Dean of Faculty of Engineering UNY, Prof. Herman Dwi Surjono explained that the VR products that have been produced, namely the Boeing 737 VR Simulator, VR Based Maintenance Simulation, E-Lab, VR Garment Production Planning, VR Restaurant, AR Hair Coloring & Bleaching, VR KSI Sipil, VR Two Stroke Engine, DIFLOTY (Dynamic Float Telemetry), and IoT Enable Ventilator Monitoring System for Covid-19 Patients.

VR itself is a technology that allows users to interact with a computer-simulated environment. VR is able to evoke a real 3D atmosphere, so that it makes users feel like they are in the real world even though the simulation in front of it is a virtual world.

Acting Rector of UNY, Prof. Dr. Margana, M.Hum., M.A., in his speech, gave high appreciation to the UNY developers who have struggled hard in producing these VR products. "We hope that this innovation can continue to be developed so that the benefits can be felt by a wider user," Prof. Margana said.

Margana added that VR has become an important part of the world of education in the current era, as a breakthrough to increase the learning interest of millennial students who are already very aware of technology. "The education system continues to need for new technology in order to remain relevant in a changing world in order to effectively work on its mission, especially with the current global Covid-19 outbreak conditions," he explained.
"We hope that Faculty of Engineering continue to be the pioneer in the development of virtual reality or the Internet of Things in the learning process in UNY,” Prof. Margana said. (hryo, Tj.Lak)
