UNY students participated in ASEAN International Conference: Climate Smart and Disaster Resilience (CSDR) 2019 in Intramuros, Manila, Philippines.. There are two teams from UNY who participated in this event. The first team has  Maya Eka Septiana  and Muh. Alfin Hanafi from Geography Education who wrote paper about climate and disaster education.  The second team has Fitrianto Hakim (Electrical Engineering Education) and Maya Eka Septiana who made paper about science, infrastructure, design, and assessment. On this event, Maya and Alfin succesfully earn the “Best Oral Presenter: Climate and Disaster Education Category” with a paper entitled Disaster Education Based on Local Wisdom in the Intervolcano Basin of Merapi-Merbabu Central Java.

Maya said that the two teams from UNY received good responses from all participants and CSDR organizers because both teams were the youngest teams of all participants in each ASEAN country who were generally professional researchers and students who were carrying out their Final Projects.

Maya Eka Septiana further explained that the international seminar activities were divided into three sessions namely plenary sessions, workshops and parallel sessions. The plenary session is an exposure activity of a delegation of researchers from ASEAN member countries. Some presenters include Dr. Zainura Zainon Noor (Deputy Director, Center for Sustainable Environment and Water Security, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Malaysia); Dr. Michael Angelo Promentilla (Professor and Scientist from De La Salle University, Philippines); Dr. Andery Lim (Scientist, Ministry of Energy, Manpower and Industry, Negara Brunei Darussalam), and many more.

"The workshop was divided into four themes, namely food security, water security, infrastructure, and technology. The workshop is an activity to facilitate participants in small groups to discuss the four themes above. This session discussed the urgency and solutions of various problems related to climate and disasters in terms of the four themes "she said. The Geography Education student added, three main themes in the parallel session were climate and disaster education; human security and capacity development; and science, infrastructure, design, and assessment.
