UNY accepted 2,334 new students through the joint selection to enter state higher education (SBMPTN) 2022. These new students comprised 800 students from the science and technology category and 1534 from the social and humanities category. Of these 2334 students, 901 received tuition assistance from the government for high school/equivalent graduates with good academic potential but economic limitations but excel to continue their studies in higher education through the KIP (Smart Indonesia Card) Study scheme.

Head of UNY Admissions, Dr. Setya Raharja emphasized that prospective new students at UNY must fill out socio-economic data for determining the Single Tuition Fee (UKT) on the http://ukt.uny.ac.id page from 24 to 29 June 2022. "Those who failed to complete the form accordingly will get the highest tuition fee rate,” he said, Sunday (26/6) at UNY. There will be data verification, and the tuition fee will be announced on July 1, 2022, on the official website of UNY.

Regarding tuition payments which will take place on 1 - 11 July 2022, UNY has facilitated several payment options , namely through direct payment at the bank, ATM payment, mobile banking, and internet banking. Partners collaborating to process tuition payments are BTN, BNI, Mandiri, BPD DIY, and Tokopedia.

Selection of new student admissions is not only a way to get the best prospective students. This process is part of UNY's support to open up fair and transparent access to education. Each prospective student is expected to fill out socio-economic data honestly to get the appropriate single tuition fee. UNY's collaboration with various scholarship schemes is another way that is expected to open up opportunities for prospective students with difficult financial conditions. Apart from economic factors, a total of 392 disabled participants took part in the 2022 SBMPTN, and 25 participants were accepted into the science and technology study program, and 42 participants were accepted into the social humanities study program.
