UNY Hosted 2022 Series of Capacity Building Training for Principals and Native Mandarin Teachers in Indonesia

Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta and the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing held an online 2022 Series of Capacity Building Training for Principals and Native Mandarin Teachers in Indonesia on June 13-18, 2022. This activity also collaborated with the ASEAN China Center (ACC) and the Center For Language Education And Cooperation (CLEC). ).

Ambassador of the Republic Of Indonesia to the People's Republic of China and Mongolia, H.E. Mr. Djauhari Oratmangun said that this program was a collaboration between the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing with the ASEAN China Center and the Center of Language Education and Cooperation. "This is the second time we have held leadership training for school principals to support improving the quality of education in Indonesia," he said. Djauhari Oratmangun also appreciates the collaboration between China and Indonesia and hopes to increase cooperation between the two countries. He also hopes that this activity can improve learning teaching and learning activities of Mandarin as well as learning about China and its culture. Future collaboration with research institutions is also worth to be considered.

Secretary-General of the ASEAN China Center (ACC) Chen Dehai was delighted that this training activity for principals and teachers in Indonesia has attracted more than 500 participants. “We appreciate your desire to learn about China and its language,” said Chen Dehai. Hopefully, the cooperation between the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing, the Chinese Ministry of Education, the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, ACC, and CLEC can be further strengthened. Chen Dehai also hopes there can be people-to-people exchanges for the activities of the two countries and for China's economic recovery to keep this cooperation open in the future. Ma Jianfei from CLEC hopes this training will be a success and is grateful to be involved in this event because CLEC has often held Mandarin training for teachers.

The Director-General of Teachers and Education Personnel of the Ministry of Education and Culture Iwan Syahril, Ph.D. thanked the activity partners from China who had collaborated on events for teachers and principals to improve competence in school management. "Thank you to the Indonesian Embassy in Beijing for providing leadership training and being included in the national priority program for emancipation learning participation," said Iwan Syahril. This activity is essential and supports the Ministry's program to transform education and improve the quality of services to students. This kind of training practice is a big concept in independent learning at an independent campus, which involves cross-sectoral activities, namely government institutions and the community in general. Iwan Syahril hopes that the teachers participating in the training will not hesitate to share their experiences and pass them on to other teachers.

Vice-Rector for Planning and Cooperation of UNY, Prof. Siswantoyo, expressed his gratitude for the trust of the Indonesian Embassy and the Center for Language Education And Cooperation (CLEC) to carry out leadership training for school principals and Mandarin language training for teachers. "This activity is to improve human resources quality," said Siswantoyo. The training will have participants that consist of 104 lecturers from state and private universities and 143 teachers from kindergarten level up to Senior High School and Vocational School from Indonesia. Leadership training for school principals is divided into two training classes, namely Level 1 Leadership Training, specifically for participants taking leadership training for the first time. Participants in this training consisted of 162 principals from schools throughout Indonesia. Then the Level 2 Leadership Training is intended for participants who have attended level 1 training. The participants are 116 principals from various parts of Indonesia. This activity is good to follow up to implement teaching methods that are part of their activities. Siswantoyo also opens up opportunities to collaborate in the field of education with school principals who will participate in this activity in the future.
