Drowsiness is the second highest accident factor after carelessness. This is what inspired UNY students to design a driving safety pillow as an effort to minimize accidents caused by drowsiness. They are Suryadi (Automotive Engineering Education), Ikhwanudin (Electrical Engineering Education), Riani Fatimah (Clothing Engineering Education) and Aulia Avi Basuki (Accounting).
"We chose a neck pillow as a medium because it is very suitable for use when driving, especially since neck pillows are familiar to use when traveling using four-wheeled vehicles," said Suryadi. This neck pillow with anti-drowsiness feature can help drivers to prevent drowsiness and overcome it so that awareness arises.
Riani Fatimah added that this neck pillow is designed in such a way that in addition to avoiding sleepiness, it can also increase comfort in the head position. "In addition, cabin seats whose design does not provide comfort in long-distance driving also cause neck fatigue," she explained. This pillow is designed using Arduino nano as a microcontroller and a heart rate sensor as a heart rate detector with a vibrator output that will vibrate and coupled with sound output as an alarm when the driver experiences drowsiness.
Ikhwanudin explained that this pillow is called Bantara which is an acronym for driving safety pillow and is made of dacron. The materials needed are neck pillow, arduino nano, speakers, pulse sensor, battery, battery case, acrylic, PCB, tenol, ON/OFF button, SD card reader, glossy paper, HCL and H2O2 and a vibrating motor. This work won the Higher Education fund in the Student Creativity Program for Entrepreneurship in 2020.
