THE GOLD MEDAL OF WICC 2016 SEOUL GOES TO YSU

Yogyakarta State University (YSU) students joining Student Creativity Unit (UKM) of Research has just grabbed the prestigious Gold Medal and Semi Grand Award in World Invention Creativity Contest 2016 from 28 - 30 July 2016 in SETEC (Seoul Trade Exhibition & Convention) Hangnyoul, Gangnam, Seoul, South Korea. The event was hosted by Korea University Invention Association (KUIA) in collaboration with Indonesian Invention and Innovation Promotion Association (INNOPA) as an official member of International Federation of Inventors Association (IFIA), World Invention Intellectual Property Associations (WIIPA), MILSET International dan MILSET Asia, AIA, Asian Caucus of Invention Associations (ACIA), ACSIA, IRIS, and TISIAS-Kanada. It was reported that hundreds of inventors from varying countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia, South Korea, Vietnam, USA, Taiwan, China, Filiphina joined the competition. In addition to YSU team, Indonesia also sent other delegates, namely from Brawijaya University and Sepuluh November Technological University.

Chaired by Fauziyyah Diyah Anggita Sari from Chemistry Department 2014, the YSU team consisted of Rizka Alina Rahmawati (English Education Department 2013), Titik Wulandari (Mathematics 2014), Shinta Hanifati (Physics Education 2013), and Rizal Justian Setiawan (Mecanical Engineering 2014) with “Utilization of Waste Melinjo (Gnetum gnemon) as Environmentally Friendly Briquette Material” as the title of their proposal.

Using the concept of Exhibition and Presentation, every inventor was facilitated with standbooth and then the jury made assessment through presentation and question-answer session in English. Several things to prepare before the assessment included posters, leaflets, articles, and the invented product. The juries coming from several countries, walked around the stand booths and addressed many inquiries to the inventors. Some of the questions addressed were product description, strength, implementation, and patent.

The competition was held for three days. The first day was to allow the participants to decorate their standbooth before assessed by the jury. The participants were really all and competing to each other to present the best display. On the next day, every team was allowed to present their product in front of the jury. Then, on the third day as the last day of the competition, the jury announced the winners and granted the award to them,in which one of them was YSU team. (Fauziyyah and Rizka)
