To enhance the ability of academics in Yogyakarta State University (YSU) in speaking English, the Office of International Affairs and Partnerships (OIAP) YSU hosted English Training "On the Job Training". This training was designed for lecturers, staff members, and some students, particularly those who would be involved in activities that require communication in English.

This training took place for 2 weeks i.e. from 22 May to 3 June 2016. This training intentionally invited two Native Speakers and also lecturers from University of Minnesota, United States, namely Margaret Miller and Jenise Rowekamp. Both are English instructions but with different specifications. Margaret focuses on English teaching for basic level, while Jenise concerns the teaching for advanced level.

Unlike normally where participants were supposed to come to the training venue, this training was designed to allow the participants stay in their office, and the trainers would reach them directly. The training was carried out for 3 to 5 hours every day with different institution each day. There were 11 institutions in YSU that were targeted for this training, including Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Sport Science, and the Office of International Affairs and Partnerships.

In addition, the two teachers also made the teaching process to be in the classical model, namely every class contained a maximum of 25 people. Thus in 1 day, there were two classes, each was managed by Margaret and Jenise.
"With this kind of training design, participants are expected to more actively participate and practice simultaneously what they are learning during training," said Endah Retnowati, M.Ed, Ph.d, the Expert Staff of Vice Rector YSU as the Chief Committee of this training. (Wulan)
