On Monday, April 28, 2025, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) took a meaningful step toward supporting students with disabilities by hosting a career guidance workshop titled "Disability and the World of Work." Held on the 7th floor of the Imam Barnadib Building, the event aimed to empower students by helping them develop practical skills, explore career opportunities, and learn strategies for managing time and priorities to achieve their professional dreams.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Guntur, M.Pd., Director of Academic, Student Affairs, and Alumni at UNY, emphasized the importance of inclusive initiatives like this. "This program is about opening doors. We want to ensure that all our students, regardless of their abilities, are well-prepared to step confidently into the professional world," he said, setting an encouraging tone for the day’s sessions.

The workshop brought together students with disabilities, their companions, sign language interpreters, university leaders, and staff members from UNY’s Disability Center. The sense of community and shared purpose was evident, as everyone came together to support and uplift the participants. It was a day of learning, encouragement, and envisioning a brighter future.

The participants had the chance to hear from inspiring speakers, including Deni Septian Nugroho, S.Pd., a UNY alumnus now teaching at SLB Negeri Kota Magelang, and Muhammad Karim Amrullah, M.H., a lecturer at UNY’s Faculty of Social, Law, and Political Sciences (FISHIPOL). Moderated by Dr. Ressa Nurzakiyah Zaenudin, M.Med.Sc., Sp.KJ., the discussion offered real-life advice, experiences, and motivation to help students navigate the challenges of entering the workforce.

This event reflects UNY’s strong commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive academic environment where every student can thrive. By offering tailored career guidance and building bridges to employment opportunities, UNY ensures that students with disabilities are equipped not just with skills, but with the confidence and support they need to succeed in their careers.
