On March 7, 2014, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) welcomed a visit from two senior leaders of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL), USA—Prof. Thomas A. Farrell, Vice Provost for Global Engagement, and Prof. David Wilson, Senior International Officer and Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. They were accompanied by Faishol Adih, M.A., Program Manager of the American Institute for Indonesian Studies (AIFIS) Yogyakarta Office.
The UNL delegation was received by UNY’s Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Wardan Suyanto, Ed.D., and Vice Rector for International Cooperation and Planning, Prof. Suwarsih Madya, Ph.D., along with faculty leaders. On behalf of UNY’s Rector, Dr. Wardan warmly welcomed the guests and expressed optimism that future collaboration would improve the quality of UNY's academic journals and expand its global academic networks.
Prof. Farrell shared that their team had visited Jakarta, Bogor, and Yogyakarta, with a specific interest in partnering with UNY. He stated, “We hope to collaborate in both education-specific and broader academic areas, especially in early childhood education research.” UNL is actively seeking international partners to support its growing work in this field.
UNL, established in 1869, is Nebraska’s oldest and largest public research university, known for its strong programs in educational sciences, teacher development, education policy, and professional administrator training. It currently collaborates with institutions in Brazil, Turkey, India, and China.
In particular, UNL is advancing research in early childhood education through the Buffet Early Childhood Institute and is seeking global academic partners. With shared strengths in education, the UNL-UNY partnership is expected to open opportunities for joint research, faculty exchange, and academic innovation in the near future.(Dedy)
