Yogyakarta, 18 September 2025 - In an activity to strengthen international collaboration, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) and Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) Singapore once again hosted a short course program titled Overseas Education & Learning Programme (OELP). This program, part of Batch 5, highlights cultural diversity and international education. Participants from NYP's School of Health and Social Sciences had the opportunity to attend a silver-making workshop in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The workshop aimed to introduce craftsmanship skills while also exploring the local cultural potential, offering participants a global education experience.
The OELP program emphasizes Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education and SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth. Batch 5 participants took part in hands-on learning activities, including silver jewelry making with HS Silver, a local company specializing in silver crafts. Guided by experts, participants not only honed their craft skills but also immersed themselves in the rich cultural heritage of Yogyakarta. The program provided a blend of academic exchange and cultural immersion, helping participants expand their perspectives and build lasting connections.
This workshop went beyond practical learning, sparking a deeper understanding of creativity's role in the workforce and its social impact. “I feel truly inspired after learning about the intricate process of silver making. It’s been a valuable experience that has expanded my knowledge,” said Humaira, a student from NYP. The workshop had a positive impact on both the participants and the local community, engaging them in understanding silver craftsmanship and the economic opportunities created by the creative industry. This program closely aligns with SDG 8, focusing on decent work and the promotion of sustainable creative industries. By harnessing local potential, the workshop emphasizes innovation and skill development, contributing to Indonesia’s growing global creative economy.
As the organizer of this program, UNY reaffirmed its commitment to supporting SDG achievement, particularly in quality education and economic empowerment. “Through this collaboration, we aim to create a lasting impact, empowering students to be more creative in utilizing Indonesia’s cultural assets. In the future, we hope to expand such programs to engage more international participants,” said Prof. Anita Triastuti, Secretary of the UNY International Office.
With the success of this event, UNY hopes that similar programs will continue to grow, enriching participants knowledge and perspectives while creating opportunities for broader international collaboration.
