The Student Association of Sports Science (HIMA IKOR), Faculty of Sport Sciences and Health, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), once again demonstrated its commitment to community service through a program titled “IKOR Mengabdi.” The activity was recently held at the Budi Luhur Social Service Center for the Elderly (BPSTW) in Bantul, targeting senior citizens as the main beneficiaries.

Carrying the theme “Injury Risk Management for the Elderly through Education and Physical Activity,” the program was attended by around 80 elderly participants who showed great enthusiasm from the start. The event not only delivered educational content but also created a warm and engaging atmosphere through various interactive activities.

The program began with a workshop on degenerative diseases commonly experienced by the elderly. The session was delivered by Dr. Enggista Hendriko Delano, S.Or., M.Or., AIFO, who explained in a simple and accessible way how to understand, prevent, and manage injury risks in older age. His communicative approach encouraged participants to actively engage and ask questions.

The atmosphere became even more lively as participants took part in light physical games specifically designed for the elderly. In addition to providing entertainment, these activities aimed to improve physical fitness and strengthen social interaction among participants.

The event coordinator, Linggar Fahri Aimar, stated that the program reflects students’ real contribution in applying sports science knowledge directly in the community. “We aim to create activities that are not only educational but also enjoyable, so that the elderly remain motivated to maintain their health,” he said.

The activity ran smoothly and was filled with warmth and enthusiasm. The active participation of the elderly demonstrated that educational approaches combined with recreational elements can create meaningful impact. Through IKOR Mengabdi, UNY students hope to raise awareness among the elderly about the importance of proper physical activity, helping them lead healthier, more active, and higher-quality lives.
