Professor Lantip, who was present representing the Rector of UNY explained that currently, students could access all kinds of information via the internet. Therefore, teachers should always equip themselves with broad knowledge and be able to keep up with the times; he said when giving a speech.
Professor Nunuk Suryani, who was the keynote speaker, explained that the Merdeka Belajar policy initiated by the ministry intends to create high-quality students. To achieve this, teachers who can teach according to the abilities and talents of students are needed. Hopefully, the new model of the PPG Pre-Service Program can solve the problem of teacher needs both in quality and quantity.
Temu Ismail, M.Si., stated that the Pre-Service PPG Program was presented to fill the vacancies of teachers who would retire. But PPG graduates' availability was still minimal, so a new model of Pre-Service PPG was implemented. Pre-Service PPG was carried out based on teacher needs. Graduates had the certainty of becoming teachers, new teachers were PPG graduates, induction of novice teachers was integrated with PPG, Pre-Service PPG PPL had strong relevance because it was carried out in the teaching places of novice teachers who would be assigned, and all stakeholders synergized in recruiting new teachers. Temu Ismail also explained that in the placement and assignment of prospective teachers, the Directorate General of GTK also synergizes with the Ministry of Home Affairs, local governments and technical teams in 33 provinces in Indonesia.
Sissy Vidia Paramitasari explained that the output of the Pre-Service PPG Program is to create graduates who will become professional teachers. This of course, must also be accompanied by good input. In this case, students who will take part in the PPG program have maturity, maturity and passion for becoming teachers. Sissy added that if the student successfully passes the first test stage, namely the substantive test, it is inevitable that the student has mastered essential competencies and has technical skills related to his field. Sissy also provided several strategies for participating in this PPG selection, including learning about the 2013 Curriculum and Merdeka Curriculum policies, arriving on time, good time management, staying calm during the selection, and reading long questions, and checking back before the test results are collected.
