Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta regularly holds social charity. This activity is a form of UNY's concern for helping people in need. This year, it was held at the “Panti Asuhan Yatim Piatu dan Dhuafa Muhammadiyah” on May 15, 2022, as part of the 58th UNY anniversary celebration.

Joko Pramono, the representative of the orphanage, reported that so far, 132 children are living in this orphanage, including 20 (kindergarten and elementary school), 37 (junior high school),  30 (high school and vocational school), and 45 (students). He added that his party expressed his deep gratitude for the arrival of UNY to provide compensation to the children living in the orphanage.

"There is a virtue in giving charity, especially to orphans. Therefore, let's learn to share charity regularly from a small amount so that later it can become routine, "said the Chairman of the Central Executive Board of the UNY Alumni Association (IKA), Professor Suyanto, in his remarks at the social service event on May 15, 2022. In line with what the Chairperson of the IKA DPP conveyed, the Rector of UNY also said that he regularly visits orphanages around Yogyakarta to give alms and ask for prayers to get smoothness in every matter.

Samsul Bahri, who represented the Regent of Sleman, said that UNY had started a helpful initiative in saving the underprivileged younger generation and helping the country overcome poverty, considering that the poverty rate in Yogyakarta had increased in the last period. "Hopefully, this UNY initiative can be followed by all universities in Yogyakarta to reduce the poverty rate," said Samsul.
