UNY students won the Gold Medal in the International Competition on Human Necessities at the BIIS (Beirut International Innovation Show) 2021 which was held on April 8 to 10, 2021 by the National Association for Science & Research (NASR) with the International Federation of Inventor's Association (IFIA) in Beirut, Lebanon online. The completion winners were announced at MENA Unboxing YouTube channel on April 10, 2021.
The Beirut International Innovation Show 2021 aims to become a global leading venue for Innovators, Inventors and Investors with a strong emphasis on Technology Transfer and Research Valorization. This competition was attended by participants from various countries and categories, ranging from professionals (lecturers, teachers, practitioners, and industry experts), school students to university students.
UNY students participated as a team in BIIS 2021. They are Riza Atika (Mechatronics Engineering Education Study Program), Musa Beni Ricardo Aruan (Mechatronics Engineering Education Study Program), Imam Cahyadi (Mechatronics Engineering Education Study Program,), Rizal (Electrical Engineering Education Study Program) and Apri Rohmanto (English Literature Study Program).
In this competition, Riza and her friends raised the idea of the importance of a tsunami early warning system as one of the important needs of humans to live safely from future tsunami natural disaster. Indonesia has experienced thousand disasters because of its geographic location which is at the junction of the world's three main plates and is passed by a series of active volcanoes. This condition increase the probability for future earthquakes to tsunamis.
“We need to be well prepared to respond future earthquake to tsunamis. That’s why we develop disaster management technology innovations in order to minimize casualties and help strengthen the mitigation system in Indonesia, Riza Atika said (Tj. Lak)
