UNY STRENGTHENING COOPERATION WITH DIRECTORATE GENERAL OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, MINISTRY OF LAW AND HUMAN RIGHTS

UNY and Directorate General of Intellectual Property Ministry of Law and Human Rights signed Memorandum of Agreement on Center for Technology and Innovation Support. The signing ceremony was held on 10 March 2020 together with several universities. UNY was represented by the Vice Rector for Planning and Cooperation, Dr. rer. nat. Senam and Chairperson of the Institute for Research and Community Services, Prof. Dr. Suyanta, M.Sc.

In his remarks, the Director General of Intellectual Property said that patents are expected to increase along with the increasing of products / research carried out by universities. Hopefully, increasing patent would push further the opportunity to be marketed and public benefit so that the research and patent would bring greater benefit. 

He also added that the patent owned by the university was also expected to be a requirement for submission of professor candidacy, so that it was parallel with Scopus. So it is not always depend on  Scopus.

In addition to the MoA signing ceremony, activities with the Directorate General of Intellectual Property at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights also continued at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) on the same day. Activities at UGM are Public Lecture activities on Intellectual Property and Innovation Protection. The Cooperation Agreement was held again at the beginning of the event. This Agreement concerning the Protection and Utilization of Intellectual Property.

UNY through the Center for Intellectual Property Studies has and will continue to encourage increased patents at UNY. Furthermore, patents in UNY are expected to be beneficial to the public. (Aji; Tj.Lak)
