Skin health is important. The lack of skin health care may cause skin problems such as wounds and acne.  They can be caused by staphylococcus aureus. To effectively deal with them, it is possible to use herbal soap . Ananda Aprilia and Annisa Nurrohmah, students from UNY Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences take the initiative to   develop herbal soap made of cassava leaves (manihot esculenta). “We learned that Flavonoids and saponins in cassava have antimicrobial and antiviral properties as well as triterpenoids that is also known to be beneficial in skin damage treatment," Ananda said.

Annisa ’Nurrohmah explained that the ingredients for making cassava leaf soap are 15 grams of cassava leaves, 35 ml of distilled water, 75 ml of olive oil, 50 ml of palm oil, 50 ml of cooking oil and 12.5 grams of sodium hydroxide (NaOH).

Ananda Aprilia and Annisa 'Nurrohmah in the making of this soap produced two formulas, with each formula having different NaOH periods and olive oil concentrations, palm oil concentrations, and cooking oil concentrations. The first formula unfortunately has a high pH level and potentially caused scaly skin. Better result comes from the second formula which has proven a safe pH level for human skin and cause no rash or any allergic symptom during direct use. (Dedy;Tj.Lak)
