Technological developments have an impact on industrial development, which affects all aspects of people's lives. The existence of this industrial revolution will certainly have an impact on changes in world society. The 4.0 Industrial Revolution proposed by Germany in 2011 through digital transformation, the Internet of Things (IoT) and blockchain resulted in the growth of a new society system. This community utilizes an intelligent system based on artificial intelligence (AI) and IoT to make life prosperous through Society 5.0. The main issue of Society 5.0 is the use of data presented by the use of technologies such as IoT, Big Data, and AI using the principles of inclusion, sustainability, human-centeredness, and innovation. As stated by Prof. Dr. Heri Retnawati, M.Pd. in her inaugural speech as Professor in Mathematics Education Evaluation at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. The speech entitled "Mathematics Education Assessment in Era Society 5.0" was read out before an open Senate meeting in the Main Meeting Room of the Rector of UNY, Saturday (12/28). Heri Retnawati is the 149th professor of UNY.
The woman who was born in Gunungkidul, 3 January 1973 said, in the era of Society 5.0, the required student competencies included creativity and problem solving, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration as well as being able to overcome difficulties and competitiveness. The competence has a broader meaning compared to the realm of knowledge and skills. These competencies are utilized to fulfill complex life needs, by optimizing the use of various psychosocial resources, including attitudes, knowledge, and skills in a particular field. These competencies are categorized into analytic, interpersonal, acting, information processing, and ability to manage change. These competencies can be mastered through the educational process, including through mathematics education. Mathematics education that can achieve these competencies is mathematics education that is carried out based on certain standards. Mathematical education standards are needed given the competence will develop in a conducive learning environment and practice knowledge, skills and attitudes.
The Doctor of Education Research and Evaluation at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta explained, problem solving is the main thing that becomes the task of students in learning mathematics, as well as the purpose of learning mathematics. Students are encouraged to reflect on their thinking during the problem solving process, so that they can apply and adjust strategies developed to solve problems and other contexts. By solving problems, students get a way of thinking, tough attitude and not easily give up, always curious, and self-confidence with new situations faced by students, both during the learning process and outside the learning process.
Along with the development of the community, mastering of 21st century competence was an urgent matter. "Besides competency mastery can be achieved through the implementation of learning by utilizing an appropriate approach, as well as conducting authentic assessments which are also an assessment for and of learning," said Heri Retnawati. For this reason, various assessment techniques need to be applied, and reported in detail, so that they are useful for increasing competency achievements, improving learning, and improving education policy. Various challenges need to be faced, in order to prepare human resources who are ready to face the development and change of society and have the competitiveness to be able to play an active role in the global world.
