BATIK MANDING SIBERKREASI DICTIONARY BRING UNY STUDENTS TO NATIONAL SCIENTIFIC WEEK 2019

UNY Students research on Batik Manding Siberkresi Dictionary has successfully pass the judgement into National Scientific Week (PIMNAS) 2019. The research team consist of Hizma Arum from Sociology Education, Azi Wansaka from History and Hernia Nur Hidayah from Social Sciences Education get the full support from UNY Students Creativity Program (PKM). The research is done under supervision of Nur Endah Januarti, lecturer from Sociology Education. She has been widely known for her expertise on education media.

Hizma explain that this research started with concern on the decline of local batik development. Imported batik come with cheaper price and gradually reduce the market share of local batik. The team also acknowledge that at least there are two problems faced by Indonesia batik. The first is unpreparedness for young generation to continue batik business. The second is the lack of education media for batik learning. Batik has many to be learned. Every pattern, line, dot and color reflect traditional value of Indonesia.  That’s why, any it is important to ensure young generation understand about batik more.

Hizma said that the idea got stronger support when the research team found out that a batik village in Manding, Wonosari tried to develop and promote local batik.  “Our batik dictionary give explanation about the meaning behind patterns created by Batik Manding Siberkreasi Village. There are also history about the beginning of batik in Indonesia in general. We will develop this dictionary further to record various meaning of batik in Indonesia(Azi/Eko)
