Team from engineering faculty of Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta become a runner-up for national research paper competition at Animal Science USU Competition (ASUSCO) 2019. The competition was hold by Universitas Sumatera Utara in February. The team members consist 3 of students from different major in engineering faculty, Dwi Arianto from mechanical engineering, M. Galih Alkaustar from mechatronic engineering education, and Ardi Jati Nugroho from Mechanical Engineering education.
ASUSCo 2019 was the national scientific paper competition purposed to see participation of youth generation for increasing the quality of Indonesia livestock sector either in technology or the innovation for increasing the production. In this competition, the representatives from UNY introduces Smart Coopfor future Eggs. Dwi Arianto emphasized the importance of controlling the temperature in the chicken coop “the device aimed to maintain the normal temperature automatically based on the hens’ need in coop” Dwi said
This concept took with the consideration of an appropriate humidity levels and the temperature for the hens’ coop. The main reason is because the level humidity and temperature have significant role in the eggs production. “An overheated temperature will cause stressed or well known as heat stress,” Dwi said.
This device works when the sensor system detected the heated temperature, so the mist maker that have integrated with the solar panels will spray the water to decrease the temperature in the cage. The decision of put the solar panels as their main energy based on the consideration of coops places located far from the residential area.
The team hopes that this innovation will have a lot of beneficial side for the Indonesia livestock industry. “A further research still needed to see the condition of the hens in the coop which are exposed by mist maker continously”(hryo/terj.Afi)
