Bimasena Team from Engineering Technological Engineering SME Division (DRB) UNY won the Most Favorite Design Award in Bridge Design Competition at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (10 - 11 March 2018). In this competition Team Bimasena chaired Sahril Afandi class of 2014 and members Ermalia Nur Hidayah class of 2015 from the Department of Civil Engineering and Planning.
Sahril told that the competition system adopted in this competition is the participants are required to create a bridge which is the solution of the given case. "At that time the case was a bridge should be able to pass by a ship that has a height of 7 m and a length of 10 m and participants were given 4 pieces of balsa timber measuring 36 feet and a base wood fruit measuring 24 feet," recalled Sahril.
"After a quick consideration, we finally decided to design a bridge with the name" Dragon FB "inspired by a dragonfly that has a thin wing but can fly very high," explained Sahril.
"With this mechanism we hope that this bridge can have a light weight but has the ability to withstand heavy loads," he said.
The series of Bridge Design Competition event itself starts with Technical Meeting and proceeds to the bridge assembly with 5 hours. The second day is the presentation and testing of the work, the presentation itself is held for 5 minutes with a question and answer session 2 minutes. (hryo)
