After achieving success in the 2023 Indonesian Flying Robot Contest (KRTI) by bringing home 1st place in the Racing Plane Division and 2nd and 3rd place in the Technology Development Division, the Universitas negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) Flying Robot Team is now preparing to compete in KRTI 2024. However, this time there is something special-UNY is not only participating as a participant, but also hosting this prestigious event which will be held from September 12 to 18, 2024 at the Faculty of Vocational Studies UNY and Gading Airfield, Gunung Kidul.
Ariadie Chandra Nugraha, Supervising Coordinator of UNY Flying Robot Team, emphasized that improving the quality of the team is always a priority. “The leadership of UNY fully supports student participation in competitions, both at the national and international levels. Hopefully, we can achieve more brilliant achievements this year,” he said. The head of the contingent, Jonathan Alfa Gustaf Tamunu, added that the team of 98 students from 17 different study programs had been preparing since the beginning of the year. “Although it is difficult to balance research and lectures, the high spirit of each team member is our main strength,” he said. Marshanda Alfa Amaria, Manager Coordinator, highlighted the important role of management in organizing team members and managing the budget efficiently.
In KRTI 2024, UNY Flying Robot Team will participate in five divisions: Fixed Wing (FW), Racing Plane (RP), Vertical Take Off and Landing (VTOL), Technology Development (TD), and Long Endurance Low Altitude (LELA). In the LELA Division, UNY Voyager Team is ready to compete with an unmanned aircraft that has been specially designed for flight endurance tests. Their aircraft can fly for 1.5 hours with a distance of up to 90 km. Not only that, they also developed payload dropping technology and hotspot detection monitored through Telegram bots. Their achievement of winning second place at the regional level is a strong capital to compete at the national level.
In the Fixed Wing Division, UNY Thunderwing Team brought a humanitarian mission by developing an aircraft capable of becoming a “First Responder” in river disaster areas. The aircraft is designed to deliver logistics packages as far as 7 km and map the disaster area, while carrying up to 1 kg of cargo. In the Technology Development Division, Team Az-Zawra Biantara is focusing on the Hybrid Tail-Sitter UAV innovation that combines drone and fixed-wing aircraft technology. Their aircraft, Nakula and Sadewa, are equipped with multiagent avionics technology and a cutting-edge telemetry system called 'Senovate'.
Meanwhile, Team Werkudhara in the VTOL Division developed a YOLO technology drone for indoor detection and navigation missions, with precision payload dropping capabilities and remote autonomy. In the Racing Plane Division, Team Rejetion focused on speed and precision with its twin-motor Flywing aircraft, designed to race 700 meters at optimal speed. They continue to refine the aircraft's autonomous and landing systems to meet the challenges of the competition course.
Despite showing great readiness, the UNY Team still faces technical challenges such as long-range signal problems and limited test areas. However, the team's dedication and innovation are expected to bring creative solutions to overcome these obstacles. KRTI 2024 is not only a competition, but also a platform for students to exchange knowledge and experience. This competition is expected to give birth to a creative and innovative young generation in the field of aviation technology, and contribute to the advancement of Indonesian technology.
With careful preparation, high fighting spirit, and full support from various parties, UNY Flying Robot Team is ready to record brilliant achievements and bring the university's good name in the KRTI 2024 event.
