A delegation from Western Sydney University (WSU) visited Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) yesterday as part of their two-week academic visit to Indonesia. The half-day program brought together six students and two lecturers from each institution for a collaborative discussion on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The session, which ran from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, featured presentations from both universities examining how the global sustainability framework is being implemented in their respective countries. UNY representatives presented "Critical considerations of UN SDGs within Indonesian context," highlighting local initiatives like village-based tourism that support multiple SDGs through community empowerment.
The WSU team responded with insights on Australia's approach to sustainability challenges, creating an engaging cross-cultural dialogue. Participants examined how both nations are adapting global goals to address regional realities and discussed practical implementation strategies across different sectors.
The exchange proved valuable for both institutions as participants showed great enthusiasm for learning from each other's experiences and finding common ground in their sustainability journeys.
The collaborative session marks an important step in strengthening international academic partnerships in sustainability education. Students from both universities actively participated in the discussions, sharing perspectives on how young people can contribute to advancing the SDGs in their respective countries.
The WSU delegation will continue their academic visit in Indonesia, with further activities planned over the coming days to deepen this budding international collaboration.
