Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), through its Faculty of Sport Sciences (FIKK), took a significant step toward international collaboration by initiating discussions with Universiti Putra Malaysia. The exploratory meeting, part of the PJSd-FIKK (Partnership for Joint Sustainable Development) program, brought together academic leaders from both universities to explore shared interests in sports science research, student exchange opportunities, and joint curriculum development.

During the meeting, representatives from both institutions exchanged insights on how to strengthen cooperation in areas such as athlete performance analysis, sports technology innovation, and community sports development. The delegates agreed on the broader mutual benefits of knowledge sharing, including faculty development, cross-border internships, and potential joint supervision of master's and doctoral research students.

Capable of enhancing academic reputations and research visibility, the proposed collaboration would enable both UNY and UPM to co-host seminars, publish shared research, and organize international study programs. Faculty members expressed high enthusiasm, noting that this partnership aligns with UNY’s strategic goal of becoming a prominent international contributor in sport sciences.

As a result of these discussions, a memorandum of understanding is expected to be drafted in the coming months to formalize the partnership. Both universities are now planning follow-up visits, collaborative pilot workshops, and partnership documents that will lay the groundwork for long-term, sustainable academic exchange and innovation.
