Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) continues to solidify its commitment to strengthening global-standard academic and non-academic quality through an International Accreditation Field Assessment conducted by the German-based agency, ACQUIN (Accreditation, Certification, and Quality Assurance Institute). Held from February 4–5, 2026, this assessment serves as a strategic component of UNY’s broader internationalization initiatives.

The assessment commenced on February 4 with an opening ceremony and high-level interviews. The proceedings began with the introduction of UNY’s leadership by the Secretary of the Directorate of Quality Assurance (DPM), followed by an introduction of the ACQUIN assessment team by the ACQUIN Project Manager. During this session, UNY leadership presented an institutional overview, highlighting the university’s vision, mission, governance, and strategic milestones in advancing the quality of higher education.

In the second session, the assessors conducted an in-depth review of academic policy implementation, teaching and learning processes, research, curriculum management, community service, and learning outcomes aligned with international quality standards. This session involved faculty and Graduate School leadership, program coordinators, and faculty members. The comprehensive discussions focused on the synergy between institutional policies and academic execution at the program level.

The third session was dedicated to interviews with administrative staff and support units, including representatives from the Library, the International Affairs Office, the Business Unit and Entrepreneurship Incubator (UUIK), program administrators, the Quality Assurance Group (GPM), and the Head of Administrative Services. This phase explored how academic and non-academic support services contribute to the institution's sustainability and quality improvement.

The field assessment was conducted by a diverse team of ACQUIN assessors comprising interdisciplinary academics, professional practitioners, and student representatives from various international universities. The distinguished panel included Prof. Dr. Maren Metz from Hamburg Distance University, Germany; Dr. Azar Mirzaei and Dr. Majid Daneshgar from Kyoto University, Japan; Asst. Prof. Elene Jibladze and Prof. Dr. Giga Khositashvili from Ilia State University, Georgia; and Prof. em. Dr. Peter Riddle from SOAS University of London, United Kingdom. Rounding out the team were Prof. Dr. Sapriya from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Alexander Zeitelhack from Communication Consulting and Training Nuremberg, Germany, Elisa Löwe from Fernuniversität Hagen, Belgium, and Mr. Robert Raback serving as the ACQUIN Project Manager.

Through this assessment, UNY seeks to ensure that its academic processes and institutional governance are fully aligned with international higher education standards. Achieving ACQUIN international accreditation is expected to bolster UNY’s global competitiveness, foster cross-disciplinary and international collaborations, and sustainably enhance the quality of education and institutional services. This effort serves as a tangible manifestation of UNY’s global collaboration in developing high-quality, internationally competitive higher education.
