Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) earned an Honorable Mention in the Biology category at the 2026 National Olympiad of Mathematics and Natural Sciences for Higher Education (ONMIPA-PT) through Priskila Gracia, a student from the Biology Education Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA). The national competition was held at Airlangga University, Surabaya, from June 8 to 12, 2026.

Risma Wiharyanti, the Biology mentor for UNY's ONMIPA-PT team, stated that the achievement reflects both the academic excellence of UNY students and the effectiveness of the university's continuous talent development program.

"This achievement is the result of the student's hard work, strong institutional support, and a consistent coaching process. We hope it will inspire other students to continue developing their academic potential," she said.

According to Risma, ONMIPA-PT serves as a strategic platform for assessing students' mastery of scientific concepts, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills in mathematics and the natural sciences. Therefore, participants undergo rigorous selection and intensive coaching before advancing to the national competition.

Priskila Gracia, currently a sixth-semester student, demonstrated outstanding competence in Biology and was awarded the Honorable Mention distinction. This accomplishment adds to UNY's growing list of achievements in national academic competitions.

ONMIPA-PT is an annual competition designed to enhance students' academic competence, scientific knowledge, and interest in mathematics and the natural sciences. The event also serves as a platform for nurturing scientific talent while strengthening the culture of research and innovation in higher education institutions.

Risma added that the values promoted by ONMIPA-PT are closely aligned with Indonesia's Impactful Campus initiative, which encourages universities to develop outstanding human resources through excellence in science, research, and academic competitions. Through events such as ONMIPA-PT, students are encouraged not only to excel academically but also to make meaningful contributions to scientific advancement and societal development.

"We hope this achievement will motivate more students to pursue excellence, foster innovation, and bring pride to UNY through various academic competitions. At the same time, it demonstrates the university's commitment to preparing scientifically competent graduates with integrity and global competitiveness," she added.

The achievement at ONMIPA-PT 2026 further reinforces UNY's commitment to nurturing student talent and creating an outstanding higher education ecosystem that generates meaningful impact for society.
