Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) continues to strengthen its commitment to creating a green and sustainable campus. This commitment is demonstrated through the introduction of two VKTR 8-Meter Electric Buses as part of the development of sustainable mobility on campus. The two electric buses were officially handed over by PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk to UNY on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at the Rectorate Building.
This collaboration marks an important step for UNY in providing a modern, comfortable, and efficient campus transportation system while supporting efforts to reduce emissions from the transportation sector.
The VKTR 8-Meter Electric Bus can accommodate up to 30 seated passengers and is powered entirely by a 210 kWh electric drivetrain, with a range of up to 350 kilometers on a full charge. The buses are expected to support the mobility of the university community while also serving as an educational platform for demonstrating the application of environmentally friendly transportation technology.
Director of UNY’s Directorate of Infrastructure, Facilities, and Assets, Prof. Slamet Widodo, representing the Rector, explained that the adoption of electric buses is part of UNY’s efforts to create a greener campus environment and improve mobility for its academic community.
“These electric buses are part of one of our priority programs to provide mobility for the university community through the renewal of our shuttle bus fleet, while also contributing to sustainable development,” he said.
The adoption of VKTR electric buses is also part of UNY’s broader efforts to create a greener campus and provide a more comfortable mobility experience for its academic community. At the same time, the initiative supports the use of domestically manufactured products, as the buses have a Domestic Component Level (TKDN) of 40 percent, demonstrating that locally manufactured products can compete with international alternatives.
UNY hopes that the procurement of electric buses will lead to further collaboration, including research and product development.
The collaboration also strengthens the synergy between higher education institutions and the national industry in developing sustainable technological solutions. UNY and VKTR have also partnered with Laksana as the bus body manufacturer in providing the electric buses.
President Director of PT VKTR Teknologi Mobilitas Tbk, A. Ardiansyah Bakrie, expressed his appreciation for UNY’s adoption of electric vehicles as part of its campus mobility fleet.
“We appreciate the trust placed in VKTR by Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta. This collaboration demonstrates that domestically manufactured products are capable of meeting institutional mobility needs through solutions that are efficient, reliable, and sustainable. We hope that the presence of these electric buses will not only support campus operations but also contribute to our shared efforts to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in Indonesia,” he said.
The use of electric buses is aligned with several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) is supported through the use of electricity for campus mobility, promoting cleaner energy utilization. SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) is reflected in the development of a more comfortable, efficient, and sustainable campus transportation system. Meanwhile, SDG 13 (Climate Action) is supported through low-emission mobility and efforts to reduce dependence on fossil-fuel-powered vehicles.
The collaboration also contributes to the strengthening of the Key Performance Indicators (IKU) for Higher Education Institutions, particularly IKU 5 and IKU 6, through the application of technology relevant to societal needs and the strengthening of UNY’s partnerships with industry. This synergy can be further developed through teaching and learning, research, innovation, and other forms of collaboration.
The arrival of the two VKTR electric buses at UNY represents another step toward building a greener, more innovative, and sustainable campus ecosystem. UNY remains committed to promoting environmentally friendly technologies to strengthen sustainable mobility while supporting the energy transition, emission reduction, and the achievement of sustainable development goals.
