Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) continues to accelerate digital transformation across the campus through a strategic collaboration with Google Indonesia. The partnership was put into action through an event titled “Google Gemini Campus Tour: Gemini On Site at Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta,” held over two days on Wednesday and Thursday, September 15–16, 2026, at the fountain area of the UNY Rectorate Garden.
The campus tour was designed as an interactive space for the entire UNY academic community to learn about and directly explore the use of advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. With a focus on improving digital literacy and supporting greater efficiency in the three pillars of higher education, the event targeted participation of up to 2,000 members of the academic community each day, including students, lecturers, and education staff.
The opening began with an introduction to the Gemini On Site program by the Google Indonesia team, led by Vario Radithya Bawono as Production Lead and Thania Taniwijaya as Production Manager. The event was officially opened by UNY Vice Rector for Cooperation and Information Systems, Prof. Soni Nopembri, M.Pd., Ph.D.
In his remarks, Prof. Soni Nopembri expressed his hope that the collaboration would help strengthen AI awareness and literacy among the UNY academic community, particularly regarding Google Gemini, which has now become part of the cooperation between Google Indonesia and UNY. He also emphasized the importance of students making effective use of the technology, especially to support and facilitate their academic learning activities on campus.
Also attending the opening were members of the university leadership, including Head of the Center for Information and Communication Technology (PTIK) Dr. Restu Widiatmono, M.Si., expert staff to the vice rectors, the Cooperation and Internationalization team, the Public Relations and Protocol Office, and other supporting members of the UNY academic community.
Following the opening session and group photo, the program continued with a visit to the interactive Gemini On Site booth. Through the booth, students and educators were invited to directly explore and practice the latest Google Gemini features for coursework, scientific research, and everyday academic workflows in ways that are ethical, productive, and innovative.
