In the recent years, 2013 Curriculum (K13) and School-Based Curriculum (KTSP) have been enacted in schools. Both curricula require quality learning process, with the use of proper learning. A group of students of the Faculty of Education, Yogyakarta State University (YSU) responded to such a quality improvement challenge by conducting research with the title Media Development of Si-Kbayan with the theme of “The Beauty of Togetherness” for Grade IV Elementary School Students. Surprisingly, the research were granted fund from the Ministry of Research and Higher Education.

The learning media in the study was developed by referring to the characteristics of grade IV elementary school students. The media in the form of encyclopedia series was designed based on the provinces in Indonesia that were grouped into a series of large islands and a cluster of small islands, completed with either traditional houses, clothing, weapons, musical instruments, dances, traditional areas, and traditional games.

"The media is presented in a pop-up that has three dimensional elements of folded forms that can be turned. The pop-up will be seen when children open the book series, so the message and knowledge in the book can be delivered in a more attractive way to the learners, especially for grade IV elementary school students to understand and maintain the cultural artifacts of Indonesia in general, as well as understanding the beauty of togetherness in particular," Limas said.

This media can also be implemented to other subjects such as arts and culture, and skills and self development (SBdP). Other learning media can also be arranged on kinds of instruments, kinds of angles in mathematics, and parts and functions of ears in natural science subject. This research is part of the activity of reasoning under the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti). Hence, the research team was obligated to report the result and then being assessed by BELMAWA from Kemenristekdikti. (Limas)
