Students of Mechanical Engineering Education year 2013 Yogyakarta State University, namely Agung Pratama Putra, Ahmad Zainudin, Dwi Nor Wibowo, under supervision of Dr. Eng. Didik Nurhadiyanto, MT have just launched their innovative work that is a multifunction bed designed for minimalist rooms. The lenght of the bed is 1880 mm, width is 900, and height 760 mm. This bed is expected to save space, perfect for students living in a dormitory.

The strength of the bed lies in its ability to be folded to serve several functions, either as a flat bed, cozy bad, sofa, shelves, or table.

“First, as a flat bed, it features supporting pole, useful to replace cushion and bolster, and then when functioned as a cozy bed, the upper part of the bed can rise up at will. Next, when used as sofa, there will be supportive back that is convenient. Lastly, it can also function as shelves and coffee table, mainly when the frame is folded up, enabling the owner to store books and begs inside”, says Dwi Nor Wibowo.

This idea for this innovation derives from the reality that most boarding houses or dormitories offer narrow rooms for students. Therefore, with the supporting framework that can be folded up twice, it could save place and overcome the problem. “This product target students living in dormitories or boarding houses due to narrow rooms available”, Dwi stated.

“If a room sizes 3x3, it could only accomodate a bed and a wardrobe, then I invited my colleges to create BMB as a solution. “The price of each bed will be IDR 2,000,000 and in the near future we will focus on design development and framework reinforcement” he said. (haryo/dafit)
