 A DANCE WORKSHOP AT YSU IN COLLABORATION WITH STATE UNIVERSITY OF MEDAN (UNIMED)

Medan State University (Unimed) students and a choreography lecturer visited YSU Dance Education Study Program to join a dance workshop as a collaboration Thursday (19/3/2015). The workshop was divided into two classes, i.e. Yogyakarta dance class , which consisted of seven Dance Education students of State University of Medan and Medan dance class, which consisted of 6th semester students of YSU Dance Education Study Program.

Seven students of Unimed in the Yogyakarta dance class practiced Nawung Sekar dance in PLA building of the Faculty of Languages and Arts. “Nawung Sekar is chosen because its basic and easy movement,” said Drs. Marwanto, M.Hum., a lecturer at YSU Dance Education Study Program.

In the Lecture Building 5 of the Faculty of Languages and Arts, several 6th semester students of YSU Dance Education Study Program practiced Cawan dance. It was chosen because its unique and simple movements.

“The workshop is hoped to enhance the students’ understanding in appreciating Indonesian traditional dances. Addition, it was held to develop Javanese dance class in Unimed,” said Inggit Prasetyawan, dance lecturer of Unimed. The result of this workshop was performed in the same day in Tejokusuma Dance Hall (19/3/2015). The students of YSU were performed Nawung Sekar, Cawan, and Golek Ayun-Ayun dances, whereas the students of Unimed were performed Beru Karo and Bunga Melun dances. Later on, the Dance Education Study Program lecturers and students will visit Unimed on April 12th until 16th, 2015.
