The Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta continues to nurture graduates with technopreneur character. Vice Dean for Students Affairs, Dr. Giri Wiyono said that the campus continues to foster the spirit of independence of students and continues to encourage students to be able to create their own jobs by utilizing technology for the progress of the nation.

"Every year, we roll out a Technopreneur Grant Program to capture the best innovations of students who were then given facilities and assistance to develop into a promising technology business opportunity," explained Giri Wiyono.

Some of Technopreneur products have also been successful, even able to empower the community so that they can help reduce unemployment. "Astoetic", the  electric batik stove, products by Nova Suparmanto, alumni of FT UNY, who have bagged SNI and are very well-used by batik artists as well as learning tools for batik students.

Other research product that successfully developed is Indobot. This educational robot has been widely known not only in Indonesia, but also abroad. Oby Zamisyak, the initiator behind CV Indobot, has been named as the first winner in The Best Business Plan at the international entrepreneurship conference, ASENet, in early 2018. According to Oby, robotics has become a trend of education in schools and communities, even some schools in Indonesia have implemented robotics education as subjects alone or extracurricular activities. Indobot has been acknowledge for supported learning on how robots work based on manual, semi-automatic and automatic robotic systems.

Besides indobot there is also Astrobike which continues to consistently develop the Android-based electric bicycle business. Since its launch in 2016, AstroBike has entered the Third Generation where the design of the device is simpler with the performance of bicycles that are more improved. (hryo)
