Indonesian Embassy for Japan Supports Garuda UNY Racing Team (GURT) to Face 2015 Formula SAE Japan Competition

Garuda UNY Racing Team (GURT) enjoys wholehearted support from the Indonesian Embassy for Japan in the face of 2015 Formula SAE Japan competition, today (9/1/2015). On Monday (31/8/2015), the team visited Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo and was kindly greeted by Indonesian Ambassador for Japan, Yusron Ihza Mahendra. There were 20 students of Yogyakarta State University visiting the embassy, accompanied by 3 advisors, and some officers of Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo.

The ambassador and all staff in the embassy as well, extended a warm welcome to the guests. At that time, H.E Yusron Ihza Mahendra communicated his earnest wish to the team. “We must participate in this kind of competition. We have an expectation to be winner, yet at least, we can show the world that Indonesia still exists, to open their mind.”

In expressing his wishes, Yusron was desirous as he usually is, especially when talking about the achievements of nation’s youth. He himself pointed out that all nation’s youth have to hone their capability, one of which is through research. “We could learn from the technology of other country, than we could create our own technology”.

As a representative from Yogyakarta State University and also the team advisor, Zainal Arifin introduced his team. Previously, his team won Best of The Best predicate in 2015 ISGCC held in South Korea last May.

After this visitation, the team was scheduled to prepare for the competition that will be held for 5 days, from 1 to 5 September 2015 in Shizuoka, Japan.

In this year, the racing team from YSU joins Formula SAE Japan for the first time. Formula SAE Japan is a car competition that is held annually and also becomes part of international event of Formula SAE that will take place every year in several countries by turns, namely in Germany, Italy, Austria, Australia, and others.
