Ahmad Syafii Maarif, a lecturer at the Faculty of Social Sciences, has published his next book entitiled “Islam dalam Bingkai Keindonesiaan dan Kemanusiaan” (Islam in the Frame of Indonesianism and Humanity). The book review was held on Thursday, May 28th 2015 at the university main hall.
On this occasion, he emphasized the significance of leaders who are statesmen. “A leader who is a stateman because the current situations demand leaders who are capable to lead countries amid the violence arised caused by religious sects,” Ahmad said.
He further explained that his concern of the condition of Indonesian Muslims and their ideas on the relationship of Islam, Indonesianism, and Humanity. Islam in Indonesia is dynamic and friendly. It gives opportunities for equal justics, security, and protection.
“This nation has been unconscious and ignorant of the major problems arising,” he said. He then discusses various issues in his book with the audience.
Ahmad Syafii Maarif is also active in mass and political organizations. He was the former leader of the Muhammadiyah organization and is the founder of MAARIF Institute.
