Vocational High School (SMK) has the priority on developing students skill on competence needed on the work place. Ironically, based on statistics on 2017 open unemployment in Indonesia showed that vocational high school graduates are the biggest contributor for unemployment in Indonesia. Based on this problem, Fitri Nur Mahmudah decided to do dissertation research entitled “Management Model of Vocational High School Cooperation with the Industry” for her doctoral degree at Graduate School UNY.

The research conducted by Fitri aims to capture the current management model of cooperation and at the same time make new breakthroughs, create a model of cooperative management that is expected and which is mutually beneficial. With qualitative research methods, she did something new in an effort to analyze the data that had been collected. Namely, using the Scientific Software tool ATLAS.ti. In fact, the application that is integrated in the computer program has just been released in the last 3 years. Finally, the research produced a management model of vocational cooperation with the World of Work that was mutually beneficial.

Fitri explained that ATLAS.ti has given valuable contribution for her dissertation research. “ATLAS.ti software help me to interpret data, coding, categorizing, making concept map and finally finding the model for my research,” she said. This positive experience also encouraged her to engage as tutor in qualitative data analysis training using Scientific Software ATLAS.ti.

Fitri was considered capable of presenting and accounting for the results of the research well and convincing the board of examiners consisting of Prof. Dr. Edi Purwanta, M.Pd. (chief examiner), Dr. Cepi S. Abdul Jabar, M.Pd. (Secretary of Examiners), Prof. Dr. Husaini Usman (Main Examiner), Prof. Dr. Aan Komariah (Main Examiner), Prof. Slamet PH, PhD (Promoter), Prof. Djemari Mardapi, PhD. (co-promotor). Therefore, she is pass the exam as an educational doctorate in the field of Education Management (MP). Fitri Nur Mahmudah is the 510th doctor in UNY Graduate School and the 25th in the Education Management Study Program. (marno / ant; Tj.Lak)
