Monitoring and Evaluation of the Education Progress of Students from Mentawai Islands

“Our potential natural resources should be managed by qualified human resources. That is why we send our selected youth to study in a number of prestigious universities in the country, and we consider YSU as the finest university to educate our prospective teachers in Mentawai Islands.” Said Yudas Sabagallet, S.E., M.M. as the Regent of Mentawai Islands in the YSU Main Hall ,on Wednesday (22/01/2015). Accompanied by the Vice Regent and the Director of Education Department of Mentawai Islands, Yudas Sabagallet provided some guidance to the Mentawai students.
They were welcomed by Prof. Suwarsih Madya, Ph.D., Vice Rectorfor Cooperation and Partnership Affairs of YSU. “YSU is committed to cooperate with several regencies and run its affirmative policy by facilitating the student coming from outside Java to gain education as other students do on the regular basis,” she said.
The year 2012 students from Mentawai Islands are registered in several faculties, namely Faculty of Education (Elementary School Education Study Program), Faculty of Sport Sciences (Physical, Health and Recreation Education Study Program), Faculty of Social Sciences (Sociology Education Study Program and Geography Education Study Program), Faculty of Languages and Arts (English Language Education Study Program and Dance Education Study Program), Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (Physics Education Study Program and Biology Education Study Program), Faculty of Economics (Economics Education Study Program), and Faculty of Engineering (Informatics Engineering Education Study Program and Civil Engineering and Planning Education Study Program).
During the discussion, the students delivered their suggestions about their learning process and their involvement in university activities.
“We will continue our cooperation with YSU in Graduate Programs and training for Elementary School teachers in Mentawai Islands. We are committed to prepare our qualified human resources to get actively involved in developing this country,” said Sermon, S.Sos., the Head of Education Department of Mentawai Islands. (Yuliana)
