UNY GRADUATE SCHOOL OPENS UP OPPORTUNITIES FOR EDUTOURISM COLLABORATION WITH THE KULON PROGO GOVERNMENT
Kulon Progo Regency is one of the five regencies/cities in the Special Province of Yogyakarta, which is located in the western part. Kulon Progo Regency has a varied topography with an altitude between 0 - 1000 meters above sea level, which is divided into three regions. The Menoreh plateau/hills in the northern part with an altitude between 500 to 1000 meters above sea level. The middle part has a height of 100 to 500 meters above sea level. Finally, in the south is a lowland with a coastal area of 24.9 km. This topographical diversity certainly has the potential to be developed further.
"Bali has many areas that are independent and have the concept of "One Village, One Product," said Prof. Dr. Putu Sudira, M.P. This can be used as a reference in developing the potential of Kulonprogo. Based on the data, around 94% of businesses in this area are still on the Micro MSME scale. Therefore, the UNY Graduate School is interested in developing edutourism in Kulonprogo.
Jatimulyo, Sidoharjo, and Banjarsari villages have officially become pilot villages for Edutourism. These villages have regional potential and, at the same time, a sufficient number of human resources. The collaboration between UNY and the Kulonprogo Government is expected to further encourage UNY Assisted Villages' development as a target for UNY's community service. Thus, the community can play an active and synergistic role in developing various economic potentials in Kulon Progo. (ant, Tj. Lak)
