Indonesian Miss Tourism 2014 pageant invited all the provinces in Indonesia to send their selected representatives for promoting the local culture and tourism potential. The grand final of this competition was broadcasted nationally by Kompas TV. It required the candidates to wear their unique traditional costumes during the opening ceremony.

Ade Irma Suryani, S.St., Yogyakarta’s representative for Indonesian Miss Tourism 2014, exhibited two carnival costumes of which production was supervised by a YSU lecturer at the Department of Fashion and Beauty Therapy. He is Afif Ghurub Bestari, who has been guiding YSU students in carnival costume productions for local, national, and international competitions.

The first costume was Ngambar Sekar Dhatu which featured dominantly pink colour, wings and the symbol of Yogyakarta Sultanate.

“The costume was worn in the grand final and the traditional costume photo shot,” he explained.

The second costume was named Kluweng Kesuma. It was dominantly orange in colour and modified from Yogyakarta Pesiar traditional clothing.

“I’m proud to be part of this exhibition. The students’ works are amazing. They creatively present the local culture in these costumes,” Ade said. (Ratri)
