(Wednesday, May 27th 2015) Asst. Prof. Dr. Sombat Yotathip, President of Yala Rajabhat University (YRU) Thailand, accompanied by Prof. Suwarsih Madya, Ph.D., the Vice Rector for Cooperation Affairs and Partnerships of Yogyakarta State University (YSU), signed the Memorandum of Understanding for the collaboration between the two universities. The signing ceremony was held in the University Coordination Meeting Room at YSU Rectorate Bulding.
Yala Rajabhat University is a higher education institution located in Southern Thailand. The university has four faculties namely Faculty of Education, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Management, and Faculty of Technology Science and Agriculture.
“Last month, 19 Indonesian universities’ representatives visited Yala Rajabhat University to discuss collaboration programs. We also prioritize YSU as our partner because concrete cooperation programs such as credit transfer program and student exchange between YRU and YSU have been conducted. This MoU is not only papers but an actual collaboration,” Asst. Prof. Dr. Sombat Yotathip, President of Yala Rajabhat University.
In response to this cooperation, Prof. Suwarsih Madya, Ph.D. said that Yogyakarta State University supports this cooperation. Thus, it would also strengthen the bound between two nations, Indonesia and Thailand.
“This cooperation is promising because a number of cooperation programs are possible to conduct, considering the areas of languages, arts, research and education. We need to expand and sustain the collaboration,” Suwarsih Madya continued.
Following this ceremony is the discussion of programs possible to conduct in the near future, considering the funds and scholarships available. Among the programs planned are sending one YRU student to participate in Darmasiswa Scholarship program, student exchange, teaching staff-exchange, and research collaboration. (Yuliana)
