YSU Carnival Team Won the First Prize in the Yogyakarta Fashion Week 2014

YSU carnival team won the first prize in the Yogyakarta Fashion Week 2014. It has been the sixth time for YSU students to win the first prize for the carnival category in this event. Participating teams marched along Malioboro Street on Sunday, June 22nd 2014. Under “Rainbow of the Archipelago” theme, tens of designers, communities, and educational organizations exhibited their colourful works. In this carnival, YSU sent two teams winning the first and sixth prizes.

Afifi Ghuruf, a lecturer from the Department of Hospitality and Fashion Education mentioned that the first team Nekaratna Katulistingang, designed their works based on the imagined jewels of the equator, the place of Tinggang birds.” Jewels in this case mean the rich natural and cultural life of Kalimantan. The second team, Nusaraya Empat Raja, designed their works based on the idea of the rich natural and cultural life of the kingdoms under the four ruling kings.

Nusaraya Empat Raja team won the first prize. Meanwhile, Nekaratna Katulistingang team was in the sixth prize. Their achievements have added the list of YSU prize-winning carnival teams like last year’s victory in the World Costume Festival (WCF) 2013 in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, The Philippines.

“Jogja Fashion Week (JFW) is organized by the Office of Business and Intellectual Properties under the management of the Regional Department of  Industy, Trade,and Cooperative and Micro-Middle Size Businesses in Yogyakarta. In addition to the carnival, there are also other events such as trade exhibition, fashion design competition, and seminars,” said Tosa, the committee of JFW 2014, as cited by jogjatrip.com.

JFW is aimed at building brand image for fashion trend in Yogyakarta which consistenly preserves the tradition and culture of Indonesia in the global market. (oiap)
