Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) held the 2026 Pancasila Day Commemoration Ceremony at the UNY Rectorate Hall on Monday (June 1). The solemn ceremony was attended by the university's leadership, faculty members, administrative staff, and student representatives as a tribute to the noble values of Pancasila as the foundation of the Indonesian state and its national ideology.
Serving as the ceremony inspector, UNY Rector Prof. Sumaryanto delivered the official address of the Head of the Indonesian Agency for Pancasila Ideology Education (BPIP), Prof. Yudian Wahyudi. The speech emphasized that the commemoration of Pancasila Day is not merely an annual ceremonial event but also a moment of reflection to ensure that the values of Pancasila remain alive and continue to guide the nation's life. This year's theme was "Pancasila: Uniting the Nation, the Foundation of World Peace."
The address highlighted that Pancasila has consistently served as Indonesia's guiding principle, preserving national unity amid the country's rich diversity of ethnicities, cultures, languages, and religions. In the face of global challenges, ranging from technological disruption to geopolitical dynamics, Pancasila continues to function as a moral compass that strengthens national cohesion while representing Indonesia's contribution to global peace.
The speech further underscored Indonesia's constitutional responsibility to contribute to world order based on freedom, lasting peace, and social justice. The principles of deliberation and consensus embodied in Pancasila were described as valuable diplomatic instruments for bridging differences and resolving conflicts at the international level.
The Head of BPIP also encouraged all Indonesians, particularly the younger generation, to embrace Pancasila as a living ideology practiced in everyday life. Rather than remaining a historical symbol or constitutional text, Pancasila should be reflected in concrete actions, equitable public policies, and collective efforts to combat intolerance and radicalism that threaten national unity.
Through the 2026 Pancasila Day commemoration, the UNY academic community reaffirmed its commitment to implementing Pancasila's values through education, research, community engagement, and various academic activities aimed at advancing the nation. As a university dedicated to developing competent and ethical graduates, UNY continues to cultivate the values of nationalism, tolerance, and mutual cooperation as integral elements of campus life.
The ceremony concluded with a collective pledge to uphold Indonesia's unity and integrity while reaffirming Pancasila as the guiding foundation for addressing future challenges and realizing a prosperous, just, and progressive Indonesia.
