Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) and the Gunungkidul Regency Government signed a partnership agreement on 7 June 2022. The ceremony was completed by Gunungkidul Regional Secretary Drajat Ruswandono, MT, and Vice-Rector for Planning and Cooperation of UNY Prof. Siswantoyo.

According to Prof.Siswantoyo, the UNY vocational campus in Gunungkidul can encourage a skilled and superior generation. "UNY's 4-hectare Gunungkidul campus provides easy access to education and encourages more economic trickle-down effect for society," said Prof. Siswantoyo. In addition, UNY and the Gunungkidul government have opened educational opportunities for village officials through a past learning recognition scheme.

"We believe that open access to education can improve the quality of human resources," said Drajat Ruswandono, Secretary of the Gunungkidul Region representing the Regent of Gunungkidul. The community is increasingly aware of the importance of educational infrastructure in response to improving the quality of human resources. Especially the younger generation faces the challenges of an increasingly competitive job opportunity.

The collaboration between UNY and the Gunungkidul government has begun to increase the human development index in Gunungkidul. This improvement is in line with the development vision of Gunungkidul Regency to increase the quality of life of the dignified Gunungkidul community.

Head of the Government Section of the Gunungkidul Regional Secretary Drs. Witanto said that this agreement could not be separated from the commitment of the Gunungkidul Regency Government to accelerate community welfare through empowering community services in Gunungkidul. (Dedy, Tj.lak)
