YSU Public Administration Team Won a National Paper Competition

In the Call for Paper of Public Administration at Universitas Airlangga, Surabaya held on Monday-Tuesday (May 11-12, 2015) YSU delegates from the Public Administration Department at the Faculty of Social Sciences won the first prize by presenting their paper entitled Hamemayu Hayuning Bawana as an Innovation Strategy in Developing Community Based Tourism in Preparing for the ASEAN Economic Community 2015.
“In developing the tourism sector, community base tourism can serve as solution for the negative effects of mass tourism management such as environmental damage, pollutions, the shift of functions of agriculturally productive lands, as well as socio-cultural exploitations. The values in the hamemayu hayuning bawana highlights the importance of balancing the human life and the environment” Rabi’e explained.
Avi added that the community based tourism (CBT) was first introduced by the World Bank in 1970s as a response to the social life of the community, the character uniqueness and local culture in tourism management. In the context of Yogyakarta Special Territory, the local wisdom of Hamemayu Hayuning Bawana is a life philosophy of the Javanese society to preserve the environment. The paper further discusses the values of this life philosophy to be applied in managing the tourism in the region.
