UIN RADEN PATAH PALEMBANG EXPERIENCED PRACTICUM AT UNY FACULTY OF MATHEMATICS AND NATURAL SCIENCES

A total of 110 students of Biology Education study program Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Education from UIN Raden Fatah Palembang conducted field studies at UNY’s Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences from Monday-Wednesday, 6 to 8 January 2020. Field lecture activities are conducted with presentation of material and practicum in FMIPA Biology Education laboratory.
The first day's activities were opening, pretesting and presentation of material about Learning Media, Utilization of Garden Biology, Introduction to Cell and Molecular Biology, and Curriculum. On the second day the activities were carried out in the laboratory, namely practicum. In the laboratory the participants were divided into 5 groups. They practiced bioresin, plant tissue culture, molecular biology, making animal tissue preparations, and making plant tissue preparations. While on the last day, post test and closing.

At the closing ceremony, the Dean of UNY’s Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Prof. Dr. Ariswan said that UNY ready to cooperate with UIN Raden Fatah Palembang. Collaborations that can be carried out include credit transfer programs, joint research, and many more.

"It is right for the Students to choose UNY’s Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences as a place to study biology. Currently,  the standard of biology education is set in 3 universities, namely Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY), and Universitas Negeri Malang(UM)," he continued.

Jhon Riswanda, M. Kes., Secretary of UIN Raden Patah Palembang Biology Education Study Program, expressed his gratitude that his students were allowed to study in the field at UNY. He said that the purpose of the visit at UNY was set on the fact that the facilities and infrastructure at UIN were still inadequate. “We chose to cover technical difficulties in practicum on tissue culture, animal physiology and many more with practicum at UNY. Hopefully, our collaboration will continue and in the near future we hope that there will be our students who will be graduated from UNY,” Jhon said.

Prof. Dr. Ariswan explained that it is a pleasure to be able to provide support for biology education development in other institution.  This will help students to complete their practicum need despite of lack of practicum equipment at their home university. (witono; Tj.Lak)
